Garhbeta College began on 12th February 1950 with just 50 students at Banerjeedanga High School. It later moved to its current campus, thanks to land donations from freedom fighter Basanta Kumar Sarkar and the Midnapur Zamindar Company. Initially affiliated with the University of Calcutta, the college gradually expanded its courses and facilities, including long buildings, modern labs, and essential amenities. In 1985, it became affiliated with Vidyasagar University. Today, it offers honours in 13 subjects across arts, science, and commerce, along with general and vocational courses.
